Prediction markets are designed to be engaging. That is exactly why it is worth deciding your limits while you are calm, rather than in the middle of a market.

Veridix uses play money. Nothing here can cost you rands. But the habits a prediction market builds — chasing a loss, staking more than you meant to, losing an evening without noticing — are real habits, and they transfer. The tools below are genuine, and they are worth using now.

The three controls

Daily points limit

A ceiling on how many points you can commit in one day, across every market. Once you reach it, the platform stops accepting new positions from your account until midnight. You choose the number; you can lower it whenever you like, and raising it takes effect from the next position.

Reality check

An interruption at an interval you choose — every 30 minutes, say — telling you how long you have been on the platform and how your balance has moved since you signed in. It does not stop you doing anything. It exists because losing track of time is the specific thing that happens, and a clock in the corner is not enough to break it.

Take a break

Stops your account taking new positions for a period you choose, from 24 hours to a year. You can still sign in, see your open positions and watch them settle — a break is not a lockout of your own record.

A break cannot be shortened, cancelled or lifted early. Not by you, not by our support team if you ask, and not by closing your account or opening another. A new account with the same e-mail is refused, and one verified with the same identity document takes the break over. It can only be extended.

This is the one setting on Veridix you cannot freely edit, and it is on purpose. When you set a break you are making a decision on behalf of a version of yourself who, later that same evening, will want very much to undo it. A break that can be undone protects nobody. Choose the length with that in mind.

All three bind your agent too

If you run the automated agent, every limit you set applies to it exactly as it applies to you. The refusals live in the ledger that moves points, not in the screen — so there is no path, through the app, the API or an agent mandate, that commits points past a limit you have set.

Signs worth taking seriously

None of these is a diagnosis. Together they are the pattern people describe afterwards:

Staking to win back what you just lost, rather than because you rate the market.
Staking more than you planned, more often than you planned.
Being unable to stop while a market is still open.
Playing to escape a mood, rather than for interest in the question.
Hiding how much you play, or how it is going, from people close to you.
Feeling restless or irritable when you cannot play.
Money, sleep, work or relationships starting to be affected.

What we do at our end

The platform is 18+, and we may verify age at any time.
Limits are enforced in the ledger, not in the interface.
A break, once set, is honoured to its end date whatever anyone asks us afterwards.
We do not offer points as a reward for staking more, and we do not send "come back" messages to an account on a break.
Every market states how it settles before it opens, and every settlement can be re-derived by anyone at the public audit — you never have to take our word for a result.
